I’m at work, but I could be enjoying a beer right now. And it’s not even 5 o’clock.

Not to brag or anything.

The thing is, I haven’t had a beer at the office in more than a month. The drive to do good work usually overrides the instinct to kick back a cold one. I know how it could affect productivity, and our cofounders here at Lemonly trust us to make the occasional decision to wind down the day with a beer: only when it’s best for us.

Digging into the dynamics that govern beer at work, CEO John T. Meyer and I interviewed project manager Morgan Hauck and designer Brett Hanes to detail why it makes sense for Lemonly to have a beer fridge, and now a kegerator at our new office. Then we talked with Phil Wilson at BuzzFeed’s Minneapolis office to compare, and learn from another startup environment that allows alcohol on the job.
