This quarter, Lemonly challenged each employee to write a blog post about pretty much whatever we wanted. Challenge accepted. From balancing daily routines to our favorite tools at work, it’s been a lot of fun learning about my coworkers through their posts.

As a project manager, I could write about processes and timelines until I turned blue in the face, but I decided to write about something even more exciting. 🙂 Since music (especially new music) is so good for the soul, I decided to rank my favorite new albums of 2015. Here are the top albums and tracks in my goodie bag so far this year.

Sound and Color by Alabama Shakes

Released April 2015

Before this album, I was only a casual Alabama Shakes listener. Then I saw frontwoman Brittany Howard completely annihilate the SNL stage. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I was hooked. This thing is an absolute masterpiece full of raw emotion, relatable lyrics, and good feels.

Favorite Song: “This Feeling”

Another Eternity by Purity Ring

Released March 2015

If you see me rolling to the yoga studio, I am probably listening to Purity Ring. During my yoga class, the instructor is probably going to play a song by Purity Ring. I can’t escape them this year, but I’m not complaining. 🙂

Favorite Song: “Stranger than Earth”

Coming Home by Leon Bridges

Released June 2015

If you’re having a bad day, here is what you do:

  1. You listen to the new Leon Bridges album.
  2. You dance around your house to the smooth Motown sounds.
  3. You feel instantly better about your day.

Seriously, this album is crazy beautiful. It’s like time traveling back to the good old days – you won’t regret it.

Favorite Song: Coming Home

Sylvan Esso by Sylvan Esso

Released May 2014

OK, so I am totally cheating because this album came out in 2014. But it is so amazing it needs to be on this list. I had the pleasure of seeing them live in Brooklyn this year, and it completely sealed my appreciation for their musical style and craft. I hope there is more to come from this duo.

Favorite Song: “Could I Be”

  • Currents by Tame Impala
  • Magnifique by Ratatat
  • Fall is a Good Time to Die by Jami Lynn (local South Dakota artist)
  • “No Way Out”/”I’ll Start Believing” by Warpaint (Singles)
