So why Towel Day?

If you don’t know much about Douglas Adams, the most important thing to know is that he wrote humorous and fun science fiction books. This May marks the 11-year anniversary of Adams’ death. Two weeks after his death, his fans decided to commemorate him by making May 25th, Towel Day.

It turns out that Lemonly designer, Ana, is a huge fan of Adams’ work and to celebrate Towel Day 2012 we decided to make an infographic.

Adams believed that towels should be worn everywhere. In his most famous book, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Adams wrote about the importance of towels, deeming them “the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”

The moment you start reading Adams’ book, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, it’s easy to see why so many fans of his work fell in love with the spirit of Douglas Adams.

Adams was a man who was open to new knowledge, exploring everything around us and always doing it with a comic tone. He was a satirical genius with an incredible sense of humor.

Here is one lecture of his (video) to help you catch a glimpse of Adams’ comicality. This lecture is about a documentary he did about endangered species, and a book to accompany it, called “Last Chance to See”

Adams never failed to make his fans laugh, so this is a way to say, in his way, “thanks for all the fish.”
