Photo of Ty MacConnell, a Lemonly visual designerIntroducing Ty MacConnell, Lemonly’s newest visual designer! Ty is a multi-talented creative pro who brings a sweet set of design and animation skills to the team. He’s a Britton, SD, native and a South Dakota State University graduate, joining our cohort of loyal Jackrabbits.

As our freshest Lemonhead, we put Ty through the ringer with our customary Q&A. Read on to get to know him a little better, and keep an eye out for more of his work on our upcoming projects.

What’s your favorite app (smartphone apps or hors d’oeuvres are both fair game 😉)?

I love me some greasy dive bar cheeseballs served with ranch fresh out of the jug.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy playing video games with my friends to keep in touch, shopping for PC parts, drawing cartoons, and hanging out with my wife.

Do you have any pets?

I do! Two cats: Perry and Frye.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be? Why?

I’d definitely be Timmy Turner. I’d get to be a kid again, but this time with unlimited wishes.

What’s your favorite genre of music to work to?

If I need to be productive, I listen to post-hardcore/alt rock (Saosin, Silverstein, The Classic Crime). If I need to be creative, I listen to EDM of all kinds.

Do you have a favorite blog or podcast?

If I have a long drive ahead of me, I’ll flip on Casefile: True Crime. I also used to love the Goosebump books as a kid, so I like to listen to horror stories like the ones on The NoSleep Podcast. Also, TED Talks.

What are three Instagram accounts every designer should follow?

@dimaphew, @growcase, and @atomicvibe_design_lab are all amazing sources of inspiration!

Name something on your bucket list.

Oktoberfest. No question.

As a kid, what did you say you were going to be when you grew up?

I always thought I wanted to be a film director. In high school, I’d use my subpar editing/VFX skills to create funny videos with my friends.

What is one thing about yourself that would surprise people?

I grew up in a rodeo family. My dad, brothers, sister, aunts, uncles, and cousins all do it. I’m, like, the opposite.

What drew you to Lemonly?

The talented crew and quality of work.

Why did you become a designer?

I was the “art kid” growing up. I’ve always loved drawing and creating things in general. Something about making something that didn’t exist before puts me in my happy place.

Name one dream client and why Lemonly should work with them.

Any microbrewery! Can illustrations seem like they’d be a blast to work on.

If you had to pick one for the rest of your life, would you choose burritos or pizza? Why?

There’s no such thing as bad pizza. I’ve had some pretty terrible burritos before.

We’re stoked to have you on the team, Ty! See what the Lemonheads are up to and read more from our designers here:
